This recognition comes with good reason. There has been a 92% decrease in terrorism related incidents in Pakistan since 2013, according to accurate and updated global data. Terrorism hotspots still exist in the deep south western region, however, that region is well out of the way from tourist destinations. Pakistan is now ranked 146 in the Global Peace Index (ranked just above Turkey).
International tourism to the country has more than tripled since 2014, primarily due to the improvement in the security situation. Between 5,000-10,000 Sikh pilgrims have been visiting Pakistan annually over the last decade; there have been no reported incidents either of harassment or violent attacks on any tourists.
The Pakistani government is focused on growing international tourism, as one the primary growth industries for the future. This has resulted in improved facilities for tourists including simplifying the visa process, for most a visa is now available on arrival.
